One of the more ambitious and long-term projects that Defender Ministries wants to be involved in is Defender Films. The landscape of the cinema is hardly family friendly - and it rarely, if ever, reflects a bilbical worldview. Our goal would be to produce quality films that will always be suitable for the entire family. In addition, these films will reflect a biblical worldview - even though they may not always be "Christian" by nature. Movies can be an extremely positive medium. They can teach and challenge and entertain. But they also can damage - especially impressionable children.
Defender Films will not strictly produce "kiddie" films or "Christian" films - although both of those genres will be represented. For so long, Christians have been encouraged to stay away from Hollywood. As a result, there is virtually no Christian influence there. And a large number of Christian films lack the quality and production values that would allow them to be taken seriously by Hollywood. We want to be able to minister to both groups - Christians and non-Christians - with our films. Some of these may be based on Biblical stories, while others will show life from a different point of view. Instead of implying that everyone celebrates sex and violence and profanity, Defender Films will show how to live in today's world with strong convictions and morals.
In addition to films, we want to help bring to life a Christian Film Festival - to allow Christian filmmakers to have a place to show their work. We also want to begin a Chrisitan Screenwriting Contest. This would encourage younger believers to still consider a future in the entertainment industry without sacrificing their worldview.
All of this is a huge vision - and one that has come with its share of detractors and doubters. But it is something dear to our hearts. Please pray that opportunities will arise for us to see this come to pass.
